With district races winding down, TPSN teams are making a push for district titles and playoff berths, which means there are several big contests on today's schedule.

Two of the most important games will be at Amarillo High, where Sandies' teams host Monterey.

The number one-ranked Lady Sandies take on the 16th-ranked Lady Plainsmen in a showdown that will more than likely result in either an outright district title for Amarillo or a co-championship with Monterey.

Amarillo High is 13-0 in district, which includes a 64-39 rout of Monterey in the first meeting meeting in Lubbock. That has been the only loss for the 13-1 Lady Plainsmen in district play.

The Amarillo High boys could also take a big step toward a district title with a win over Monterey tonight.

The 22nd-ranked Sandies are 11-0 in district play while the Plainsmen are 9-3. The first meeting between the teams went down to the wire before Amarillo High came away with a 57-51 win.

Fans can listen to the doubleheader from Amarillo High on the Texas Panhandle Sports Network at Gametimes have been moved up due to weather concerns. The girls game tips at 4:30 p.m. followed by the boys at 6 p.m.

Both games between Palo Duro and Randall teams tonight are big ones.

PD and Randall girls are part of a three-way tie for third in District 3-5A at 7-6. Lubbock Cooper is also 7-6 and Plainview is also in the mix at 6-7.

In the boys game, the Raiders are 6-6 and in a virtual must-win situation to stay in the playoff picture while Palo Duro is 8-3 in district and just behind 9-2 Lubbock Cooper and 9-3 Monterey.

In District 2-6A, Tascosa girls and boys play at Frenship in two pivotal games.

The Lady Rebels head into the contest in 2nd place at 6-1, with their only loss coming to the 7-0 Lady Tigers in disappointing fashion a few weeks ago at Tascosa.

The boys game features the 2nd place Rebels at 4-1 and the third-place Tigers at 3-2. Tascosa handled the Tigers easily 67-42 in the first meeting.

The first-place Canyon teams are on the road at Levelland tonight.

The Lady Eagles lead the 3-4A race with a 6-0 mark. Levelland girls are second at 4-1.

The boys game is a rematch of a thriller that Canyon won on their home court a few weeks ago. The Eagles are 4-0 in district while the Lobos are tied for 2nd with Estacado and Hereford at 2-2.

Caprock teams are unfortunately out of the playoff picture. They will try and play the spoiler role at home tonight against Lubbock Cooper in a doubleheader.
