Sandies Start 3-5A Baseball Race With a Win

Amarillo High jumped out to an early lead and then hung on for an 8-5 win over Lubbock Cooper to start the District 3-5A baseball race on Tuesday. 

The Sandies' Davien Berry drove in three runs on two hits, while Jake Maynard and Memo Frausto each had two runs batted in. 

Amarillo started and finished strong on the mound. Peyton Conner opened the game with four strong innings, allowing no runs on two hits with five strikeouts.  Coby Bolin closed out the contest with two scoreless innings, giving up only one hit with four strikeouts.

Coronado, Plainview and Monterey also started district with wins. 

The Mustangs routed Palo Duro 19-1 in five innings.  The Bulldogs edged Caprock 6-3 and the Plainsmen downed Lubbock High 5-0.

Tascosa, Randall and Canyon baseball teams did not play yesterday.
