Huge Wins for Local Teams Heading into Playoffs

Five TPSN teams will head to the high school football playoffs this week and four are coming off of huge wins in the final week of the regular season.

None was bigger than Caprock's 59-49 win over Coronado to claim a share of the 2-5A D-1 crown and the top seed in the playoffs. The Mustangs, coached by former Caprock head coach Seth Parr, had gone unbeaten in district play and had only one loss on the season heading into the match up with the Longhorns. However, Caprock was not intimidated and made the plays down the stretch to win the game.

Amarillo High pulled off an impressive win on the road at Abilene Cooper, despite getting off to about the worst start imaginable in the contest. Down 20-0 just a couple of minutes into the game, the Sandies finally got things going and never slowed down in a 58-27 win.  That gave Amarillo High the third seed from District 2-5A D-1 and pushed Cooper to 4th.

Tascosa took care of business, winning at Frenship 44-21. The Rebels also clinched a share of the District title in 2-6A as Midland Lee upset Permian.

Canyon finished with just one loss in the regular season as the Eagles mashed Pampa 47-14.  That gives the Eagles a 9-1 record and the number two seed from District 3-4A D-1.

Randall is also headed to the postseason despite losses in the last two regular season games.  The Raiders couldn't stay up with undefeated Lubbock Cooper on Friday and lost 49-7 and will be the third seed from 3-5A D-2.

Here are the playoff pairings for each team:

Tascosa (7-3) vs. EP Pebble Hills (5-5), 6 p.m. Friday, Amarillo's Dick Bivins Stadium
