The Caprock Longhorns exploded for 33 points in the 4th quarter to beat Coronado 88-75 in District 3-5A boys basketball on Friday at Caprock.

The Longhorns trailed 59-55 after three quarters of the battle between the 2nd place Caprock and 4th place Coronado, but Danielle Daniel scored 14 of his game-high 35 points in the 4th, and Chris Wilson added 12 in the final period. Daniel hit seven, 3-point baskets and went five of six from the free throw line.

The win keeps the Longhorns half-a-game behind district leader Palo Duro, which beat Lubbock High 80-49. The Dons are 12-1 in district play, while Caprock is 12-2.  The two teams meet at Palo Duro on the final night of the regular season.

In District 2-6A, Tascosa boys stayed tied for first place with an 83-62 win over Midland Lee.

On the girls side, Tascosa was stunned by Midland Lee 57-47.  That puts the Lady Rebels at 6-3 and gives the district title to Frenship.

Amarillo High girls wrapped up the District 3-5A title with an 87-50 win over Randall. The Lady Raiders drop into a three-way tie for third place with Palo Duro and Plainview at 8-7, with Montere at 7-8.
