Sole possession of first place will be on the line Friday as the number one-ranked Amarillo High Lady Sandies play at 25th-ranked Monterey in a District 3-5A girls basketball showdown.

The game can be heard live at Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The two-time defending 5A state champion Lady Sandies are 5-0 so far and have had only one close district game.  That was a 10-point victory over Lubbock Cooper, in which they trailed at the half.  However, they may get their second test with this matchup on Monterey's home court. The Lady Plainsmen bring a 6-0 district record and overall mark of 22-2 into the contest. Monterey's only losses have come to 6A Cedar Hill and 3A's number one-ranked team Shallowater.

Amarillo High is also 22-2 on the season. The Lady Sandies only losses have been to 6A schools Allen and Atascosita in the Mansfield Tournament.

There is plenty riding on the outcome of the boys game as well.

The Sandies are 3-0 and lead Lubbock Cooper by one-half game. The Plainsmen are 3-1 and coming off their first and only loss in district to Palo Duro last Tuesday.

The boys game between Amarillo High and Monterey can also be heard online at at 6 p.m. following the girls game.
