AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Former Tascosa boys basketball standout LaDarius Godbolt signed his national letter of intent Friday to play men’s volleyball at Ottawa University in Kansas.
Godbolt earned co-district player of the year honors in basketball this past season but pursued volleyball on the side, driving two hours to Lubbock to practice and compete with a club team since UIL does not offer boys volleyball as a sanctioned sport.
He compiled footage from those matches, sent it to college coaches and landed an offer from Ottawa.
Godbolt said volleyball has been a passion since middle school and that the decision to pursue it at the college level was an easy one.
“Just changed my mind to play volleyball in college because I feel like ever since I was in middle school and I started playing volleyball, it really just spoke to me,” Godbolt said. “I feel like I’m better at volleyball than I am at basketball, which is a tough thing to say because most people have seen me play basketball. But personally, I think volleyball is more enjoyable and I just really want to play competitively.”
