AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Randall introduced Clint Schnell as its new head boys basketball coach during a press conference on campus Wednesday.
Schnell spent last season as a varsity assistant at Amarillo High. He brings more than 20 years of coaching experience to Randall, including four district Coach of the Year honors and a TABC Region finalist nod for the Don Coleman Outstanding Coach of the Year Award.
Schnell said summer workouts will give him a chance to begin building relationships with his players and establish expectations before the season starts.
“I think what UIL lets us do with summer skills and being able to bring the guys up for workouts and getting to know them a little bit in a more relaxed atmosphere will allow me to begin the process of instilling what we’re going to do and my expectations,” Schnell said. “You’re still a little bit behind the eight ball starting a little bit late, but I think the system that’s in front of us lets us catch up and be ready to hit the ground running when school starts.”
Schnell said his focus will be on the players and preparing them to compete.
“It’s about the kids. I want them to be as successful as I can put them in the situation for,” Schnell said. “Mentor them through adversity, prepare them as best you can to be ready to play basketball for us and let’s go win.”
