AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Randall baseball player Brekken Ireland signed to play at West Texas A&M on Wednesday, surrounded by family, friends and teammates.

Ireland, a versatile player who saw time at both infield and outfield during his time at Randall, earned first team all-district honors in the outfield. He will remain close to home as he continues his career with the Buffs.

Ireland said he is eager to bring energy to the West Texas A&M program.

“I’m ready to bring some energy to the bus. I think I’m kind of a hype guy, so I enjoy building each other up and just pushing everybody to be the best they can,” Ireland said. “And then obviously, thankful to bring my skill sets and just hopefully I can be a great bat in the lineup, great defender, and just be a great player overall over there.”

Ireland said staying close to home was important to him and his family.

“It’s definitely good for my family because it’s hard to make gains when you’re in college and you’re 10 hours away,” Ireland said. “I’m truly blessed that they’ve given this opportunity to me. Just being right next to them, it’s great. I’ve always grown up wanting to play for them for a while, so I’m just happy I get to now.”
