AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Palo Duro wide receiver Kyron Brown announced his commitment to the University of Texas on Tuesday after receiving more than 20 Division I offers from programs across the country.

Brown, a three-star recruit, becomes the first Texas Panhandle football player to commit to the Longhorns since Spearman graduate Brenen Thompson went to Austin.

Brown had 37 receptions for 637 yards and seven touchdowns during his junior season. He also helped lead the Dons to their first district title in two decades.

Brown said consistency and his faith helped him reach this point in his football career.

“Stay consistent. There’s gonna be a lot of times where, like I said, quitting feels like the easiest option,” Brown said. “Letting go of what you worked for all along just feels like the more necessary option because of how much pain and strife you go through. But it’s important to keep going.”

Brown said he is looking forward to playing for Texas and continuing to develop.

“Definitely get out there on that Texas Longhorn field wearing that burnt orange,” Brown said. “Hopefully making it to the league. Of course, that’s the dream. That’s the biggest goal. Doing everything I can to work and improve as I’m out there.”
