Four inducted into Texas Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame

Harold Lewis, Sherwin Cox, Teresa Tinner and Ryan Palmer honored at annual ceremony

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Texas Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame welcomed four new inductees Friday whose accomplishments have helped define athletics across the region.

Harold Lewis, Sherwin Cox, Teresa Tinner and Ryan Palmer were honored during the annual induction ceremony.

Harold Lewis was honored posthumously for his lasting contributions and impact on athletics across the area. His son, Dean Lewis, accepted the honor on his behalf.

Sherwin Cox built a respected coaching career that influenced countless student-athletes.

Teresa Tinner’s dedication to basketball at West Texas State and Tulia High School left a lasting mark on the community.

Ryan Palmer’s success on the PGA Tour brought national attention to the Texas Panhandle and inspired young golfers throughout the region.

Family, friends and supporters gathered to celebrate the inductees.

Dean Lewis said the recognition came as a surprise to the family.

“The application was probably submitted over 20 years ago and some of his teammates had followed up on it and just what a great honor, what a great surprise to us and we’re just very proud of him,” Dean Lewis said.

Sherwin Cox said being recognized in his hometown was meaningful.

“It’s very much an honor to be recognized in your hometown with an honor such as this and I really appreciate it,” Cox said. “I want to thank all the committee and everyone involved and yeah it’s great.”

Teresa Tinner said she was honored to be inducted alongside the other honorees.

“Amazing, it is just such an honor and I’m so happy to be up here especially with these guys that are inducted as well,” Tinner said. “It is such an honor and I’m just overjoyed.”

Ryan Palmer said the recognition will become more meaningful over time.

“Being recognized in this city and surrounding areas, it’ll hit me harder later I’m sure,” Palmer said. “But yeah, what a special day and special honor.”
