AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Three Amarillo High track and field athletes signed to compete at the collegiate level.
Mya Velazquez will attend Trinity University, Sofia Quiles will run for Central Arkansas and Memori Hibbler will compete at Colorado Mesa.
Head coach Jonathan Woodard said the athletes have left their mark in the record books, not just at Amarillo High but across the Panhandle.
All three athletes are part of the school record mile relay team, which also holds the Panhandle’s best time at 3:48.43.
Quiles and Hibbler are on the top five lists in multiple events. They are both on the 4x200 relay twice, including the school record and fastest time in Panhandle history at 1:38. They are also on the mile relay’s top two fastest times. Quiles holds the school record in the 200 meters with a time of 24.17, with Hibbler finishing second. They rank first and third on the school’s all-time 100-meter list.

Velazquez ran the lead leg all year in the mile relay.
“It has just created such a great platform for me to stand on, such a great culture that I could bring to another team,” Velazquez said.
Quiles said she is proud of the legacy she left behind as a Lady Sandie.
“Leaving, it’s gonna be hard. I have the best coaches, all my best friends are here. Two of them are signing with me, but the rest of them are underclassmen. The legacy I left here I’m really proud of, but taking a step forward will be good, but something I’m sad to leave for sure.”
Hibbler said leaving will be difficult after running with her best friends.

“It’s really sad leaving after all this time and getting to run with my best friends, but I feel like we’ve left a good legacy for the younger kids and just a good culture for them to follow in the future.”
Woodard thanked the families for their support.
“To get where they’re at it takes a lot of love and support from each one of y’all behind the scenes, family especially, to keep them going and to be in this position,” Woodard said. “To say they are incredible athletes is an understatement.”
Woodard said the signing ceremony highlighted the culture at Amarillo High, with coaches from basketball and volleyball attending to support the athletes.
