AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The West Plains Wolves are headed to the regional finals for the first time in school history with a chance to reach the state semifinals.

The Wolves earned their spot after sweeping Springtown in the third round, winning game one 5-4 and game two 12-10.

West Plains will face Mineral Wells, the same team that ended their season last year in the regional semifinals.

Head coach Colby Chandler said he is proud of the grit and composure the team displayed in the postseason.

“That was big, but man, it was a lot of grit from our team,” Chandler said. “We came back from a pretty good deficit in game two and just showed that we were willing to fight and play those type of games, too. So I was really proud of our guys and proud that they didn’t just fold after we gave up an early lead.”

Chandler said capitalizing on opponents’ mistakes will be key.

“They capitalized on walks. They capitalized on errors,” Chandler said. “And so that’s going to be key for us this week.”

The Wolves will face the Rams in a best-of-three series starting Friday at 6 p.m. at Lubbock-Cooper High School. Game two is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, followed by game three if necessary.
