AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Jayden Cedillo made his college commitment official Monday, signing with Western Texas College to continue his baseball career.

The Amarillo High senior becomes the sixth player from this year’s Sandies team to sign at the college level.

Strong senior season

Cedillo played a dual role for Amarillo High as a lefty pitcher and first baseman during a successful 2026 season. The Sandies finished 32-6 and reached the regional semifinals, falling one win short of tying the school record for wins in a season.

The senior earned two gold gloves during the playoffs and posted a 7-1 record on the mound, earning first-team all-district honors as a pitcher.

At the plate, Cedillo batted over .400 and led the team in doubles.

Coach praises leadership

Head coach Randon Johnson said Cedillo made an impact in multiple ways throughout the season.

“What an amazing young man,” Johnson said. “He’s more of a lead by example than by words, but a big part of our team this year.”

Johnson said Cedillo’s contributions went beyond statistics.

“A guy who, any way he could, had a huge impact on our team and we’re excited to see what he’s going to do at the next level,” Johnson said.

Gratitude and next steps

Cedillo credited his support system for helping him reach the college level.

“First and foremost I want to thank God for giving me the opportunity to play baseball at the next level,” Cedillo said. “I want to thank my family, coaches and friends for being with me every step of the way.”
