AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - West Plains senior Boston Ladd signed his national letter of intent to play baseball at West Texas A&M.

Ladd will be part of the first full graduating class of West Plains. He competed in varsity baseball, football and basketball throughout his high school career.

High school career

In his senior year, the former NewsChannel 10 Goat of the Week helped the Wolves baseball team secure a co-district championship in 4-4A and contributed to his team winning another gold glove following a recent series win over Seminole.

“Feeling amazing. I mean, no better feeling than this,” Ladd said. “In baseball season still, chasing gold gloves and then also getting to sign to further my academic and baseball career to WT.”

Academic plans

Ladd said he plans to major in finance. He has been doing an internship with his uncle, a financial advisor.

“I think I’m going to major in finance. I’ve been doing an internship with my uncle. He’s a financial advisor, so probably do something along those lines,” he said.

Support system

Ladd credited his family for helping him reach this point in his career.

“I mean, in baseball, it’s a game of failure, so definitely through those moments of failure and going through slumps and everything, I’ve had to rely and lean back on my parents, my family,” Ladd said. “My dad and my brother are super big in that way because they played baseball, so they understand. So, definitely just going back to them and asking for guidance and for help has really gotten me through all of those things.”

“I love them and I wouldn’t be here without them. Each and everything that they’ve done for me is a step along the way and has helped me get to where I’m at today, and I’m super grateful for them.”

He said his approach is to keep the game simple and enjoy it.

“Baseball is a game meant to have fun. So, not to press for anything or do anything out of who I am, just to go out there and have fun each and every day,” Ladd said.
