AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Tascosa baseball star Beau Connelly signed his national letter of intent with Hesston College.

The Rebels right-handed pitcher will play the same position with the Larks in Kansas.

This past season, Connelly helped guide the Rebels to a winning record, finishing 17-16.

Connelly said he looks forward to competing for a role at Hesston and thanked those who supported him.

“You got to go there, fight for his position, and pitching is an easy way to get into a lineup,” Connelly said. “This day, in general, it’s just thanks to all these people coming, watching me sign, it’s been a pleasure. Especially playing here at Tascosa, it’s been a pleasure.”

“It’s pretty special, spending every day with [my teammates] for the past two years.”

Connelly said the school’s atmosphere attracted him.

“Just the environment, you know, people from all over Texas, they go there,” he said. “Some people I knew, they go there. Just the environment in general.”

Tascosa head baseball coach Yancy Molloy said 7% percent of athletes play college baseball.

“To be in that top seven percent, it’s unbelievable,” Molloy said. “I still remember when Beau came in two years ago, I thought he was applying for the assistant baseball coaching job because he looked older than me, but it was an awesome day. It’s been a great, great pleasure to get to be with Beau and watch what he’s done and everything he’s learned, and get to go play at the next level. So we’re super proud of him.”
