AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - While some teams have already started their postseason run in high school softball, others like Amarillo High are getting a little extra time to prepare.
The Lady Sandies are heading into the postseason with momentum on their side, finishing as co-district champions in District 3-5A. After a season of growth and change, they are turning that confidence into a playoff push.
Midseason adjustment pays off
After a coaching change back in January, interim head coach Macy Klinnert and Amarillo High had to adjust quickly. But that shift helped the group lock in, build chemistry and buy into a new voice from the coaching staff.
Using momentum from last season, Amarillo High continued to improve this year, finding their rhythm at the plate and in the field while learning how to win the tight ones when it matters most.
Playoff run begins Thursday
Now with the postseason on the horizon, the Lady Sandies are looking to keep their foot on the gas, lean on that experience and make a deep run in the playoffs.
The Lady Sandies will start their playoff run in the bi-district round against the Abilene High Lady Eagles on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Lubbock-Cooper’s softball field. They will return Friday for the second game of the series at 1 p.m. If the series is tied, a decisive third game will be played the same day 30 minutes following the game. The winner advances to the area round.
