CHILDRESS, Texas (KFDA) - The Childress Lady Cats are bringing some hardware into the playoffs.

Childress wrapped up the regular season with a 9-1 district record and the program’s first outright district championship.

The Lady Cats have been dominant this season. They’ve won 13 games by double-digit runs and held opponents to five runs or fewer in 22 games.

Childress faces Muleshoe in the bi-district round Friday at Watson Field in Floydada, and the Lady Cats aren’t taking their opponent lightly.

“We just know Muleshoe is one of those teams that they’re going to show up with intentions to win,” said Childress head softball coach Charlsi Bozeman. “They’re a very competitive program, and so we know that we have to step up and not only match that, but exceed it. Our energy has to exceed that. We have to be all in, going all out for every play at the plate.”

For Childress, this is what all the work has been about.

“All the time since August, every day in the offseason, all season, like this is what we’ve been waiting for,” said senior first baseman Journey Prince. “Everybody can show up and we know what we’re capable of and it’s time to prove it.”

The Lady Cats plan to lean on what’s gotten them this far.

“Really just having the confidence and knowing, like, just do what you do because we do this all the time, every day, swing a bat,” said junior pitcher Ansley Parr. “So just having that confidence really helps us.”

Childress enters as the No. 1 seed. Muleshoe is the No. 4 seed. The winner moves on to the area round. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
