AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Bryson Butler signed his national letter of intent to play football at Wayland Baptist University on Monday.
Butler was named an all-district tight end and honorable mention inside linebacker. He won the school’s Fighting Heart Award this past season and is a three-year letterman.
Community support
“It means a lot seeing the people out here and seeing the support I get,” Butler said. “It’s just, it’s crazy. It really is amazing to see who actually shows up and supports me.”
Why Wayland Baptist
Butler said Wayland Baptist’s approach to player development influenced his decision.
“Just how they put into their players a lot, nutrition-wise, weight room-wise, they have scheduled team breakfasts,” Butler said. “They make sure their players are connected and always ready, I like that.”

Perseverance through challenges
Butler said his high school experience prepared him for the next level.
“It’s prepped me a lot just to push through the struggles,” Butler said. “We haven’t really had a lot of success in our last couple seasons, but I’ve always stayed true with it. I’ve earned some plaques because of it. Just grinding out, that’s what I do.”
Coach’s perspective
Caprock head football coach Rowdy Freeman said Butler deserves the opportunity.
“If there’s one person that I’ve had the privilege of coaching over the last couple years that deserves an opportunity to experience a dream and to go fulfill an opportunity to play football at the next level, it is Bryson Butler,” Freeman said.
Freeman said Butler will represent the school well.
“He has undoubtedly been raised right. He’s got a good head on his shoulders,” Freeman said. “I promise you that wherever he goes, he is not only going to represent himself and his family, but he’s also going to represent Caprock very well.”
