AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Dumas Demonettes broke open a close game with a 10-run explosion in the sixth inning Tuesday, overwhelming West Plains 14-6 behind Vida Fierro’s inside-the-park grand slam.
West Plains jumped out to an early lead, plating single runs in the second and third innings. Emory Chancler doubled home the first run before Sydney Garza’s RBI single extended the advantage to 2-0.
Kaps reaches career milestone
West Plains pitcher Jaylen Kaps reached a significant career milestone in the top of the second inning, recording her 1,000th career strikeout. Despite the historic achievement, the Lady Wolves couldn’t hold off Dumas’ offensive surge.
Demonettes seize control with power surge
Dumas answered with three solo home runs in the fourth inning from Aaliyah Chairez, Madi Zubia and Lisbeth Quiroz to take a 4-2 lead. Chancler cut into the deficit with a solo shot to left in the bottom of the frame.
The sixth inning proved decisive as the Demonettes buried West Plains with 10 runs. Star Cortes ignited the rally with an RBI double before Emarie Marquez drew a bases-loaded walk. Yari Vargas ripped a two-run double to set the stage for Fierro’s inside-the-park grand slam that blew the game wide open. Cortes capped the outburst with a two-run homer to left.

Pitching and offensive leaders
Cortes earned the win in the circle, allowing 10 hits and six runs over six innings with two strikeouts. Zubia tossed a scoreless seventh inning in relief. Kaps took the loss for West Plains despite striking out 15 batters over six innings to reach 1,014 career strikeouts.
Cortes paced Dumas with two hits while Fierro drove in four runs and drew two walks. The Demonettes showed patience at the plate, accumulating six walks and turning one double play.
West Plains collected 11 hits, led by Chancler’s 3-for-3 performance from the eight-hole. Garza and Teagan Beck also recorded multiple hits for the Lady Wolves.
