AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Amarillo High rode a masterful pitching performance from Jayden Cedillo to a 2-0 victory over Tascosa on Friday at HODGETOWN Stadium. Cedillo went the distance, surrendering only four hits in the shutout effort.
The contest turned into a classic pitchers’ battle, with both staffs combining for nine strikeouts and limiting offensive opportunities throughout.
Third-inning breakthrough proves decisive
The Sandies scratched across the game’s only runs in the bottom of the third. Austin Sluder came through with an RBI single to center before Ian Herrick worked a bases-loaded walk to push the lead to 2-0 — all the support Cedillo would require.
Tascosa’s Zayden Brewer matched Cedillo pitch-for-pitch through four frames, surrendering just two hits while fanning three. But four walks proved costly, particularly the free pass with the bases full in the decisive third inning.
Offensive struggles on both sides
Amarillo High’s offense mustered only three hits — singles from Tate Blackwell, Sluder and Jimmy Escajeda. The Sandies compensated with discipline, coaxing six free passes including two each from Herrick and Sluder. Sluder also created havoc on the bases, stealing three times.
Tascosa managed four hits with James Naylor providing the lone bright spot, collecting two knocks from the eight-spot in the order. The Rebels committed no errors defensively, with David Gordon handling six chances flawlessly.
