AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Clovis built an early lead and never looked back in an 11-1 victory over Portales on Thursday at HODGETOWN.
The Wildcats wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Joseph Hernandez drove in a run with a single in the top of the first inning. Clovis added another run in the second when Hernandez drew a walk.
Hernandez also took the mound for Clovis, holding Portales to five hits and one run over six innings. He struck out nine and walked one.
Portales starter Carson Pfaffenberger battled through five innings, striking out nine batters but allowing seven runs on five hits and seven walks.
Portales found some offensive production despite the loss. Jacoby Bamforth went 2-for-3 and swiped two bases to lead the Rams in hits. Noah Chavez drove in Portales’ lone run and went 1-for-1 at the plate.
Clovis built its advantage with a balanced offensive attack. Sandro Cordova and Conrad Sepulbeda each drove in three runs to pace the Wildcats. The team collected 10 hits and showed patience at the plate, drawing seven walks.
