AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Dumas Demonettes erased an early deficit with a dramatic seventh-inning rally Friday, defeating Randall 5-2 behind a complete-game effort from Star Cortes.

Randall struck first in the opening frame, plating two runs on sacrifice flies from Tatum Gibson and Kaley Wiseman to take an early 2-0 advantage.

Seventh-inning surge seals victory

The Demonettes saved their best for last, exploding for five runs in the top of the seventh to snatch the victory. Vida Fierro ignited the rally with an RBI single before Madi Zubia followed with another run-scoring single. Cortes delivered the knockout blow with a two-run double that gave Dumas a 5-2 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Cortes was stellar in the circle, going the distance while allowing just three hits and two runs over seven innings. She struck out three and walked four to earn the win. Alyssa Navarrete absorbed the loss for Randall despite pitching all seven innings and striking out four.

Offensive leaders

Cortes provided pop in the middle of the lineup, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs to pace the Demonettes. Aaliyah Chairez and Fierro also collected two hits apiece as Dumas finished with nine hits. The Demonettes played flawless defense, committing no errors with Zubia handling seven chances in the field.

Preslie Mancha, Emma Cuellar and one other player each managed a hit for Randall. Gibson and Wiseman each drove in one run for the Raiders.
