Caprock powers past Amarillo High 19-15 in high-scoring affair

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Caprock Lady Longhorns survived a back-and-forth offensive battle Tuesday, outlasting Amarillo High 19-15 in a game that featured 35 combined hits. Anahi Cadena powered the Caprock attack with four hits and five RBIs, including a three-run homer in the opening frame.

Both teams came out swinging from the start. Caprock jumped ahead with five runs in the first inning, highlighted by Cadena’s blast to right field. Amarillo High answered immediately when Mykaela Samuels launched a two-run homer to center field in the bottom of the inning.

Lady Longhorns build commanding lead

The Lady Longhorns continued their offensive onslaught with two runs in the second, including a solo shot by Kendra Sosa and an RBI double from Grace Morales. Caprock broke the game open with a five-run third inning, getting contributions from Kai Camacho, Annalyse Gonzalez, Marissa Andrade, Cadena and Kodi Shackelford.

Amarillo High kept fighting, with Madilynn Russell connecting on a two-run homer to center in the third. But Caprock put the game out of reach with another five-run explosion in the sixth, featuring RBI hits from Andrade, Cadena and Shackelford.

Offensive fireworks from both sides

The Lady Longhorns finished with 20 hits, led by Cadena, Annalei Valdez and Morales with four apiece. Shackelford and Andrade also recorded multiple hits in the victory.

Amarillo High tallied 15 hits despite the loss. Brylee Baker paced the Sandies with three hits while Cienna Perez delivered two home runs and drove in three. Russell, Brinlee Baker and Perez each knocked in three runs. The Sandies drew eight walks but couldn’t overcome Caprock’s offensive firepower.

Caprock welcomes Lubbock-Cooper on Thursday.
