AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The West Plains Lady Wolves soccer team has advanced to the regional finals for the first time in school history after defeating Stephenville in the regional semifinals.
Playoff run
West Plains has advanced through the playoffs with wins over Mineral Wells in penalty kicks in the bi-district round and San Elizario 2-0 in the area round.
The Lady Wolves faced Stephenville in the regional semifinals last week in a rematch against the same team that eliminated them from the playoffs last season. Freshman Charleigh Jackson scored the game-winning goal to send West Plains to its first regional final.
Jackson said the team is focused on showing the work they have put in this season.
“Looking forward to just seeing all the work that we’ve been putting in to show tomorrow, whether we’re in the weight room outside or in the film room, just like seeing what we’ve been working on all year,” Jackson said. “I know that we’ll find success by just playing for each other. Something that we always say is that 11 is better than one. So tomorrow, just remembering that we’re a team and we play for each other, I think we’ll find a lot of success.”
The Lady Wolves are the last team from the Texas Panhandle still competing for a championship. They will play in the regional final at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene at 4 p.m. CST, facing Life Waxahachie. The winner will advance to the state semifinals.
