BORGER, Texas (KFDA) - The Borger Lady Bulldogs made school history after winning their first playoff game last week to advance to the area round.

The Lady Bulldogs won the District 3-4A title and defeated the Burkburnett Lady Bulldogs 4-1 in the bi-district round to clinch their first gold ball in school history.

Head coach Victoria Nunez has led the program for four seasons. She said the success has been a long time coming.

“When we first started, we knew it was going to be a lot of work,” Nunez said. “It’s been a lot of mental work, but a lot of physical work too.”

Senior Riley Lumpkin started with Nunez as a freshman.

“I think what helps us most is just going in and playing for each other and being able to know that the person next to you on the field is working just as hard as you are and wants it just as hard as you [do],” Lumpkin said. “I think just going out there and giving everything we have and even though we could potentially play again on Friday, not holding anything back and just playing one game at a time.”

The Lady Bulldogs will face the Midland Greenwood Rangerettes Tuesday in Lubbock at Pirate Soccer Stadium in the 4A Division II area round. The game kicks off at 6:00 p.m. CST.

The winner will advance to the regional semifinals. If Borger wins, the team will advance to the third round of the playoffs for the first time in school history.
