AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amarillo High Sandies baseball team continues to excel as the season progresses.

The Sandies are 18-3 overall and 4-1 in District 3-5A play. The team is tied for first in the district and ranked in the top 20 among other 5A schools around the state of Texas.

Amarillo High head baseball coach Randon Johnson said the approach to the plate is the key to success for the baseball club.

“You guys are the difference,” Johnson said. “It’s not an easy game. You’re not going to be successful all the time, but your approach to the plate gives you a chance to be successful. When one guy has a great at bat, it gets to where the next guy does and the next guy does, and all of a sudden you look up and we scored three or four runs in anything. So, that’s always fun to be a part of that.”

The Sandies are back in District 3-5A action Tuesday to finish their series with the Plainview Bulldogs. The game is in Plainview and starts at 5:00 p.m. CST.

The Sandies won the first meeting between the two teams Saturday, 14-5.
