CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - The Dumas Demonettes defeated Canyon 6-2 in a District 4-4A softball game Thursday at Double Eagle Park.

The No. 2 Demonettes and Lady Eagles both entered the game seeking another district win. Star Cortes pitched for Dumas, and Brooklynne Garrett pitched for Canyon.

Fierro homers in first

In the first inning, Vida Fierro hit a solo home run to center field to put Dumas on the board first.

Garrett kept Canyon strong defensively, finishing with seven strikeouts.

In the second inning with runners in scoring position, Yari Vargas hit a ball along the first base line to bring two more Demonettes home and extend the lead to 3-0.

Cortes had a solid day in the circle, striking out three batters and allowing two runs off six hits.

She also got it done at the plate, scoring a two-run home run to extend the Dumas lead.

Canyon did not go down without a fight. With Fierro up to bat for Dumas again, she popped one up and Bayleigh Burks got the out at second and sent it to Ellie Mitchell at first for the double play.

The Lady Eagles would score their only two runs in the fifth inning after a RBI double from Faith McGuire and an RBI single by error from Ava Johnson.
