AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Palo Duro and Tascosa split a boys and girls soccer doubleheader Tuesday at Dick Bivins Stadium, with one week remaining in district play before the playoffs. It was Senior Night for the Palo Duro Dons and Lady Dons.

Girls match: Tascosa 4, Palo Duro 2

Tascosa got on the board in the first half when a throw-in bounced behind the Palo Duro defense. A cross-field pass found Maren Peck in the middle, and she put the ball in the bottom right side of the net.

Palo Duro trailed 3-1 in the second half when Yahaira Martinez scored her second goal of the match, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

Tascosa’s Rylee Anderson then converted a corner kick, with the ball sailing over the Palo Duro goalkeeper and into the net for Anderson’s second goal of the match.

The Lady Rebels won 4-2 and improved to 15-4-2 overall, 12-1-2 in district.

Palo Duro fell to 9-8-3 overall and 6-7-2 in district.

Boys match: Palo Duro 8, Tascosa 1

In the boys match, Leo Gomez opened the scoring for Palo Duro with a one-touch finish off a corner kick to give the Dons a 1-0 lead.

Palo Duro extended its lead to 3-0 before Tharcisse Butoyi added to the advantage. Gomez found Butoyi on a run down the field, and Butoyi won the footrace to the ball, got to his spot and scored his second of four goals on the night.

Tascosa’s Charlie Whittenburg cut into the deficit with a free kick that curved around the Palo Duro wall and past the outstretched arms of the keeper.

The Dons won 8-1 and improved to 13-5-3, 11-3-1 in district.

Tascosa fell to 4-11-4 overall and 4-8-3 in district.
