CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - Canyon senior Townli Wheeler has signed to play college basketball at Wayland Baptist University. Wheeler will play for head coach Jordan Vessels, a former Canyon Lady Eagle.
Two seasons of district titles, deep playoff runs
Wheeler spent two seasons on Canyon’s varsity roster. The Lady Eagles went undefeated in district play both years to claim back-to-back outright District 4-4A titles. Wheeler was part of both teams that advanced to the regional finals in the playoffs.
Wheeler on choosing Wayland Baptist
Wheeler said the program’s history drew her to Wayland Baptist.
“I’ve always loved their program,” Wheeler said. “It’s very historic, like very, very cool program. I love it, and just really the history there really made me want to go. Coach Vessels, I love her. She’s a lot like me. We want to win. We’re very competitive. I love the team there. I love the culture. Hard work pays off and having a good attitude is always key and really just having fun.”
