AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The West Plains Wolves have reached the UIL boys basketball state semifinals for the first time in school history.

A season of firsts

West Plains also claimed its first outright district championship this season. The Wolves defeated Andrews, San Elizario, Southwest and most recently Burkburnett — a 23-point win last Friday — to advance to the final four in the 4A DI playoffs.

Senior class focused on March 13

Senior Boston Ladd said the team’s chemistry and shared history have driven the run.

“This senior class has been together since we were little and we’ve been pushed and we’ve worked hard ever since we stepped foot on a basketball court,” Ladd said. “So to be able to do this with those guys means a lot. ”We’ve had March 13th circled on our board since day one, so coming in here and seeing that and then it being less than a week away is just crazy, but it speaks to how hard that we’ve worked throughout the season. But, we all know that the job’s not finished, so we’re going to continue to keep working hard.”

They will face the #3 Dallas Kimball on Tuesday at Wichita Falls Legacy High School, with the winner advancing to the state championship game in San Antonio later in the week. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. CST.

The Ravens have won two state titles in the last four seasons.
