AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - It may be soccer season, but today at Palo Duro High School the spotlight shifted from the field to the future. Julie Alvarez made it official, taking the next step in her athletic career.
Alvarez will be continuing her soccer career at Nelson University. She has been an integral part of the Lady Dons throughout her career, earning second-team all-district honors in her freshman and sophomore seasons. She was also recently named NewsChannel 10 GOAT of the Week for excelling both on and off the field.
Alvarez follows heart to Nelson University
After deep consideration, Alvarez felt Nelson University was the right place for her to grow as a player and as a person.
“I chose Nelson because this is what my heart felt like was right. After going to their school and visiting them, it all just fell into place. After deep thought and deep prayer about it, I decided that this is where I’m gonna go,” Alvarez said.
Alvarez said she is looking forward to the opportunities that await her at the next level.
“This feels right. What I’m looking forward to is just the higher intensity and the friendships and connections that I’ll be making over there,” she said.
