AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Caprock Lady Horns softball standout Annalyse Gonzalez has committed to Wayland Baptist University to continue her athletic career once her high school career is finished.
Gonzalez has been a key piece for the Lady Horns over the last few seasons. Head coach Bobby Langford cited her as a key contributor in the team’s play-in win over Monterey last season, where she led the team with three RBIs while throwing six innings.
Gonzalez said the work to reach this day has been happening for quite some time.
“It means stepping going onto a new journey, taking a bigger step...bigger things in my life, and I’m very excited for it. I played since I was four years old, and my parents have been wanting me to play for a long time, so I’m very grateful to be in this position,” Gonzalez said.

She said her experience visiting Wayland Baptist made her college decision clear.

“The environment, they’re very nice people, and they all seem very fun and chill to be with. It wasn’t like a big brick on my shoulder. I enjoyed being around them, and it felt like a fresh breath of air,” Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez also reflected on her time with the Lady Horns.
“It’s meant a lot. I’ve met the best people here, and I’ve enjoyed every single bit of it. I just wish everybody could play at Caprock, honestly,” Gonzalez said.
Langford said Gonzalez has won some of the biggest games for the program and praised her character on and off the field.
“One of the things about Annalyse, she’s a great, great kid. She makes everything fun at practice. She makes everything fun on the bus trips. Everybody loves Annalyse,” Langford said. “She has won some of the biggest games for us. I feel like pressure really doesn’t get to her and that’s great. I know Wayland is getting a great, great person and a great athlete.”

Langford said the signing represents years of work behind the scenes.
“All the things you see here today, you know, the home runs, everything that kind of culminates to this point. All those are great, but it’s all the behind the scenes, the hard work, the traveling, the money, the expense, everything kind of culminates into this one day, and I’m very proud of her, very proud of her teammates, very proud of the way she handled herself for the last four years. I’m very proud that she is a Caprock Longhorn,” Langford said.
