WACO, Texas (KFDA) - The #2 Holy Cross Mustangs win their first ever state championship title in the TAPPS 2A division after defeating Legacy Christian Academy, 59-45.

Kon Deng finished with 22 points, leading all scorers.

The Mustangs finish the season with a 26-7 overall record. They went 14-0 in district play to claim the outright district title under first year head coach, Austin Turner.

“The Holy Cross community is so amazing,” said Turner. “Everybody there is so selfless and all our guys...just serving brotherhood. To come out and hang a banner and get a championship you won, it’s everything.”

He continued with high praise of his team.

“They were upset when they got bumped out of the state tournament last year and they went right back to work. It’s just, it’s been basketball nonstop up until this point. This was their goal. This was the whole time we were working and stacking days and I was coaching them hard.”
