AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Many athletes around the area are still making their decisions on where to compete at the next level. Randall’s Noah Cuellar was added to that list, putting pen to paper on his collegiate athletic journey.

Cuellar is continuing his baseball career at Southern Virginia University. He has been a versatile component for the Raiders, earning all-district honors last season as a catcher. His contribution to the team doesn’t stop there, as he also shows skills on the mound as a right-handed pitcher and has recently been able to play right field.

Cuellar reflects on adversity and decision

The road to the next stage has not been easy for Cuellar. The future Knight said the challenges he faced along the way helped him in the long run and ultimately led him to become part of the SVU baseball program.

“Obviously I’ve gone through a lot of adversity, a lot of hate, a lot of difficulties. Some lessons that I’ve learned throughout the years is just be where my feet are at. Always be in the present, be in the moment, just do me,” Cuellar said.

Cuellar said the coaches and atmosphere at SVU were key factors in his decision.

“The coaches and the atmosphere, the community is really great. The coaches love me for who I am. They love my skill set. They love me for my classroom skills and all this,” he said.

Coach Propst praises work ethic and adaptability

Head coach Brad Propst highlighted Cuellar’s all-district performance and his ability to adapt to new roles.

“He was an all-district catcher. And then this last weekend, he had a different role. We were putting some younger guys behind the plate just to see how they would do. And it was awesome to see Noah. Noah was his biggest cheerleader guy in the dugout,” Propst said.

Propst said Cuellar’s transition to right field showed his character and preparation.

“We put him out in right field to play a different position that he had never really played before. Noah made some of the best catches of the whole weekend. Just being able to adapt like he did is a true testament to his character,” he said.

Propst credited Cuellar’s relentless work ethic for bringing him to this moment.

“Noah is the kind of guy that’s worked almost too hard at times. He’s slipped in twice a day for the last two years. All that work has now brought him to this day to be able to sign to go to Southern Virginia,” Propst said.
