CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - One of the most decorated distance runners in Texas, Canyon’s Addyson Bristow secured her college future with Oklahoma State on Friday at Canyon High School.

Bristow has built an incredible legacy on both the cross country course and track for the Lady Eagles, recording 10 first-place finishes and five total state meet records. In track, she holds the 800 and 1600 meter individual records plus the 3200 meter relay record. In cross country, she holds the 3200 meter individual record as well as the fastest team average in state history.

Bristow credits support system for OSU decision

The future Cowgirl said much went into why Oklahoma State was the right choice for her.

“So much went into it just I’ve had a lot of help from, my coach and just a bunch of different people helping me choose what’s best for me and giving me a bunch of awesome opportunities and just getting to meet the team that was a big part of my decision and just a legacy that they hold,” Bristow said.

Bristow expressed gratitude for the opportunities she has been given.

“It means so much I feel like I’ve just been blessed to the max of all the opportunities I’ve been given and just God has given me a passion to be able to carry this on and I’m just so excited to be able to finish my high school career and have a lot more to look forward to,” she said.

Coach Baca reflects on Bristow’s legacy

Head coach Ray Baca said Bristow is one of the most decorated athletes in the state of Texas, not just at Canyon High School.

“Obviously, Addy is one of the best, most decorated athletes in the state of Texas ever, not only at Canyon High School, but in the state of Texas,” Baca said. “She holds five state records in class 4A, and the cross country records are not 4A — they’re for all of cross country in the state of Texas.”

Baca praised Bristow’s leadership and character as much as her athletic accomplishments.

“Now, with all that being said, it makes me so proud that Addy’s up here and she’s able to sign, not only because of winning races and setting records, but just because of the person she is and the person she’s meant to our program,” he said.
