CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - High school athletes across the area are still signing their national letters of intent to secure their college futures, which Canyon’s star nose guard Da’Keydrion Ford did today.
Ford is officially taking his talents to Southern Nazarene University. The Canyon Eagle made his mark on the defensive side of the ball this season.
During his senior year, he made a statement by earning first-team all-district defensive team honors. He also took care of business in the classroom, landing a spot on the honorable mention academic all-state list.
Ford finds perfect fit at SNU
Ford said when it came time to make his decision on where to call home next, SNU felt like the perfect fit. He showed gratitude to Canyon for helping him along the way.
“It took a lot of hard work and dedication. It was really based off of the community there. It’s a really God-driven community and I felt like that was the right path for me,” Ford said.

“Canyon has strengthened my faith in God and they developed a really good demeanor around me and a positive mindset to always keep on working and don’t take handouts,” he said.
Coach praises character and ability
Head Coach Matt Lovorn for Canyon spoke about the player he calls “Diesel” and praised both his football ability and character.
“Today we’re just going to call him Diesel. Really proud of this young man. I know he’s going on to do great things,” the coach said.
“Besides being a really good football player for us here, the Canyon Eagle program, being an all-district player, Diesel’s a great young man. His character, his personality that he has, those are the things that he’s going to figure out is going to carry him a long ways in college during the next step,” he said.
