AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The No. 24 Palo Duro Dons defeated the Lubbock Cooper Pirates 71-44 in their regular season finale at home Tuesday night.
Kyron Brown led the Dons’ offensive attack with multiple scoring plays throughout the game.
In the second half, Brown drove to the basket for a contested floater and later converted a three-point play after drawing a foul on a drive to the rim.
The Dons controlled the game early, building a substantial lead in the second quarter. Cuda Clayton finished a fast break opportunity off a bounce pass from Kodi Abdelrahim, who had collected a defensive rebound after Gee Sanchez blocked a shot at the rim.
Lubbock Cooper struggled to generate consistent offense against Palo Duro’s defense. Will Marcinkowski provided one of the Pirates’ few bright spots, scoring on a putback after Navari Jackson missed a shot attempt.
The victory gives Palo Duro momentum as they prepare for the postseason. The Dons finished the regular season with a 24-6 overall record and went 13-3 in District 3-5A for a third place finish.
