AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Boston Ladd is a four-year varsity member of the West Plains football, basketball and baseball teams and has been an integral part of each team’s success through district titles and more.
“Feels amazing. It’s truly an honor to get to do that and be in that position,” Ladd said.
Coach’s perspective
His basketball coach, Kendall Cogburn, knows how valuable Ladd is to a place like West Plains.
“We’ll have other guys step up, but you know, someone like Boston...we’re glad to have him to kind of set the foundation for this school,” Cogburn said.
Ladd is humble about his success though, knowing he wouldn’t be where he is without those around him.

“I think everyone here that’s a senior right now, we’ve all worked as hard as we can all four years. It’s really paid off and I’m really proud of everyone around me for pushing me to be able to be in this position,” Ladd said.
Looking ahead
With the playoffs right around the corner in basketball and baseball season beginning after that, Ladd is ready to make the most of his last months as a Wolf.
“Just enjoy the rest of my senior year with my brothers and all my friends and have fun,” Ladd said.
But more than anything, he wants to leave a legacy for those that come after him. Cogburn knows Ladd’s impact is seen daily right now.
“He’s been able to show some of our younger guys kind of what that looks like in that role and how to ultimately make us successful in everything we do,” Cogburn said.

“The legacy that we leave, we’ll be able to come back next year and the years after that and see that West Plains is going to be a winning program in every sport for a long time just because of the kids that we have poured into, just like we got poured into when we were underclassmen,” Ladd said.
Academic and athletic achievements
Ladd ranks in the top 10% academically at West Plains High School and has taken AP and honors coursework. He serves as senior class president and has been involved in student council, the Student Advisory Committee, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Accounting UIL Team.
In athletics, Ladd has served as football captain and earned All-District Utility Player honors. He helped lead the football team to the state semifinals and received the FCA MVP Award and Character Award.
In basketball, he earned All-District Honorable Mention and Defensive MVP recognition while helping the team reach the regional quarterfinals.
In baseball, he was named All-District 1st Team Utility as a sophomore and helped the team qualify for bi-district and area playoffs.
Ladd also volunteers in the community with organizations including Hillside, Kanakuk, Faith City Mission and Colorful Closets.
