AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Amarillo High secured a 55-43 home victory over Palo Duro, with the Sandies showing significant improvement in recent weeks.
Game highlights
Near the end of the second quarter, the ball was passed to the corner to Patch Parr. He took a few dribbles with a step-back on the three-point line and made the triple, putting the Sandies up by 12.
Palo Duro looked to respond when Cuda Clayton drove inside and fed the ball to Deuce Reese right on the block. Reese finished the layup for the Dons.
In the second half, Abdi Hussein took the ball baseline for the Dons and sent it out to Kyron Brown near the top of the key. Brown knocked down the three-pointer.
Off a rebound, the Sandies came down the court with the ball pushed to Parr. Despite the defense being there, he was able to finish through contact.

Coach praises team’s recent growth
Head coach Jason Pillion spoke about his team’s improvement and how they have developed in recent weeks.
“We weren’t this team when the season started. And I’m so proud of these guys and how they’ve worked. You know, we were kind of dead to the world a couple weeks ago. And these kids have grown up so much in two weeks,” Pillion said.
Pillion expressed surprise at his team’s late-season improvement.
“Who gets better in February? At this point, you kind of are who you are. And these guys have figured some things out in the last two weeks. I’m so proud of them,” he said.
