BOOKER, Texas (KFDA) - The Booker Kiowas and Lady Kiowas have been making their way through district play this season under head coach Shane Woods, and with only a few games left in district, the teams are ready to finish strong.
Boys team eyes better seed
The Kiowas are currently sitting in third place in District 1-1A after going 4-3 in district play. They have three more games left in the season to grab a better seed in the playoff standings.
The Kiowas’ next task is a road trip to Darrouzett to face the Longhorns on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Darrouzett High School. These two teams met just a few weeks ago in Booker, and the Kiowas won by 57 points.
Lady Kiowas advance to playoffs
The Lady Kiowas wrapped up district play last Friday, finishing with a record of 4-4 and third in the District 1-1A standings. They recorded two wins over Follett and two over Kelton.
While the district standings are not completely final on the girls side, they know they are advancing to the playoffs after a strong regular season.

The Lady Kiowas will travel to Stinnett to face the Claude Lady Stangs, who are currently in first place in their district, for the bi-district matchup in Class 1A Division I.
Coach Woods said both of his teams continue to improve as the season progresses and he is proud of both squads.
“There’s no quit in them. We had the same thing in football this year with the success we had there. And it’s just because they work hard. They have no quit in them and they do everything that we ask of them. And that’s all you can expect out of young people. But the girls have had a great season and they’ve really done well. We’re, you know, 14 and 16, 4 and 4. They just keep grinding and working hard and that’s all I can ask for them,” Woods said.
