LUBBOCK, Texas (KFDA) - Amarillo High completed a sweep of Monterey with victories in both girls and boys basketball Tuesday night.

Girls game: #9 Lady Sandies 68, #25 Lady Plainsmen 57

The Lady Sandies established an early lead in the first half when Keanu Allen found Ella Brown for a three-pointer.

Amarillo High continued to build their advantage through ball movement. Tyler Held received the ball on the wing and passed to Allen, who returned it to Held. Held attacked the weak side and hit a short jumper.

The Lady Sandies also worked effectively inside. Allen delivered an entry pass to Kensleigh Payne, who used her height advantage to score over the rim.

Amarillo High maintained their lead throughout the game to secure the 11-point victory.

The Lady Sandies are now 12-3 in District 3-5A and 27-7 overall.

Boys game: Sandies 49, Monterey 38

Early in the contest, Larry Galloway got a steal for Monterey and took it coast to coast, getting the basket and foul for an and-one opportunity.

Later in the game, Amarillo High used good passing that led to a post touch for Will Sherwood, who scored for the Sandies.

Monterey’s Sam Arrington launched a three-pointer and knocked it down to cut into the Amarillo High lead.

Amarillo High never let Monterey complete the comeback and secured the road win 49-38.

The Sandies are now 11-2 in District 3-5A and 23-7 overall.
