AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The #17 Amarillo High Lady Sandies won off a buzzer-beater over the #6 Tascosa Lady Rebels, 39-38, while the #23 Tascosa Rebels took care of business over the Sandies, 64-53.
Tascosa’s Alex Carter hit a huge three with six seconds on the clock to take a one-point lead on the road, but Amarillo High’s Tyler Held hit the game winning shot to give her team the home victory over their rival.
“I saw the clock...I just knew that I needed to get down there and somewhat try to find the paint, find a shooter, find an open gap,” Held said. “I just really just hunted and tried to just get a jump shot that I’ve made all season. I’m glad that we pulled through...we fought, we played tough, and to make the shot alongside my teammates, it really means a lot, and I’m just so proud of our team.”
Amarillo High head girls basketball coach, Jeff Williams, was elated after the win and Tyler’s game-winning shot.
“Tyler is so explosive that when she gets the ball in her hands, good things can happen,” said Williams. “She’s kissed it off the glass like that so many times for us, and it’s the biggest one I’ve ever seen for her. But man, what a great effort by all of our girls.”
