AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Tascosa completed a basketball doubleheader sweep over Monterey Tuesday night, with the No. 23 Rebels defeating the Plainsmen 67-65 after the No. 6 Lady Rebels won 51-45.
Lady Rebels overcome Texas Tech commit’s 28 points
The sixth-ranked Lady Rebels defeated the 16th-ranked Lady Plainsmen in the first game. Tascosa’s offense found its rhythm in the second half with strong three-point shooting.
Senior Devaeh Johnson connected on a straightaway three-pointer after receiving a pass from Alex Carter in the corner.
Angel Green followed with another three-pointer from the corner.
Monterey’s Ambrosia Cole, a Texas Tech commit, led her team with 28 points. Cole scored on a contested one-on-one shot against Kenzee Dickson during the game.

Tascosa answered with scoring from multiple players. Nic’Kiyah Fisher scored on a layup off the glass, while Dickson converted on an open layup after the defense left her unguarded on an inbound play.
Lady Rebels head coach Zac Tabor said his team was motivated for the rematch.
“Coming into it, our girls were very motivated,” Tabor said. “A, because we want to be playing good basketball this time of year, but B, we kind of felt like we owed them one because of how we went and played in Lubbock. We were kind of disappointed in the way we played, so the girls definitely kind of had an extra chip on their shoulder tonight.”
Tabor said the team focused on making Cole work for her points and improving their rebounding from the previous meeting.
“Going in, we wanted to make it as tough as we could on Ambrosia, but man, she’s a heck of a player,” Tabor said. “Really, the plan was to make her work for every point that she got, and I feel like we did a pretty good job of that tonight.”

“First time we played [Monterey] we got demolished on the glass, so going into tonight, we wanted to kind of be more physical and try to win the rebounding battle. We were a lot more physical and tough than the last time we saw them.”
With the win, the Lady Rebels advance to 11-1 in District 3-5A and remain at the top of the leaderboard.
Boys game provides second close finish
The 23rd-ranked Rebels boys team followed with their own narrow victory over the Plainsmen. In the first quarter, Ladarius Godbolt scored on a drive to the basket, using a spin move to free himself and drawing a foul for an and-one opportunity.
Jack Corperning assisted Ty’Zavien Collins for his second consecutive three-pointer during the game.
In the second quarter, Corperning missed a three-point attempt, but Kayvion Blackshere grabbed the offensive rebound and scored on the second-chance opportunity.
With the win, the Rebels move to 9-1 in District 3-5A, 20-5 overall.
