AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - West Plains senior quarterback Reid Macon announced he has committed to West Texas A&M to continue his athletic and academic careers.

Macon is the only starting quarterback in West Plains football history, taking over the position as a freshman when the school opened in 2022.

Over the last four years, the Wolves won three straight district titles and reached the state semifinals for the first time in program history during Macon’s junior season.

Senior season highlights

This past season, Macon and the Wolfpack went undefeated in district play to capture the title. The team advanced to the regional finals before falling to the eventual state champions, Stephenville.

Macon completed over 71 percent of his passes with 2,749 passing yards and 30 touchdown passes. He also rushed for 681 yards and 17 rushing touchdowns.

Macon said making his decision was easy.

“WT just kind of won me over with the coaching staff and how they loved on me and make me feel at home, and it’s good that I basically am home,” Macon said.

Macon said his focus will be on hard work and dedication at the collegiate level.

“It takes a lot of hard work to be good at something, and we pride ourselves on hard work and to be dedicated and bought into something,” he said. “So moving on to WT, I’m going to try to focus on being bought in and making sure that I’m having a full benefit mindset to everything that I do when I’m there.”

Macon’s first collegiate offer was from the Buffs, which is also his parents’ alma mater. Macon’s father, Ross Macon, says the family is thrilled for his future.

“We are super excited for Reid to be playing at WT! It was his very first offer he received and to know the ties his mother and I have is very special! We know the standard WT has in academics and athletics and we know it will be a place Reid can play the sport he loves and receive a quality education as well!"

Macon finishes his West Plains career with 55 starts, 13,578 total yards and 161 total touchdowns.

West Plains head football coach Adam Cummings said Macon’s impact on the program will be remembered.

“Reid is someone that’s going to come in and elevate not only that quarterback room, but elevate their team and be able to contribute and make them a perennial power just because of what he’s done in laying this foundation these first four years,” Cummings said. “His name will be around for a while.”

The Buffaloes finished this past season with an 8-4 overall record and a bowl win, their best performance under head coach Josh Lynn.
