AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - For many high school athletes, signing day is a moment where dreams are put on paper. Caprock softball standout Grace Morales did just that before her senior season starts.

The Lady Horns left-handed pitcher and outfielder will be staying in the Lone Star State, headed to North Central Texas College.

Last season, Morales helped lead Caprock to a third-place district finish, which resulted in another postseason bid for the Lady Horns.

Dual-sport athlete focuses on softball

As a dual-sport athlete, Morales also shined for the Caprock volleyball team this past season but is sticking to the diamond moving forward.

She said signing her letter of intent was special not only because of achieving a dream, but also because of the overwhelming support she received from the Caprock community.

“It was fantastic. So many people came out, old friends, new friends and teams and it made me realize I do have a good community around me and I am heavily loved and supported which meant a lot,” Morales said.

Campus visit eases college transition concerns

Morales said she had initial concerns about moving away from home for college.

“I had a lot of nerves moving off to college away from home but also excited at the same time and when I got there the anxiety and nerves went away,” she said.

The campus visit helped her feel comfortable with her decision.

“I felt at home, I felt at peace, I felt like myself and that’s what was most important about them,” Morales said.

She said her high school experience has prepared her for the next level.

“It’s helped develop me not only as a player in terms of hitting and pitching and stats, learning to work with new people and to have fun and be myself and take it in for all it is and never taking a moment for granted,” she said.
