NAZARETH, Texas (KFDA) - The Nazareth Swiftettes are the most successful high school girls basketball team in the entire state of Texas. They won their 26th state title last year, and this season, they’re just as dominant.
The No. 3-ranked Swiftettes made their way through a tough non-district schedule playing great teams from all classifications. They started district play Dec. 12 and since then have gone 6-0.
Staying focused on process
When you have that many state titles under your belt, there are always going to be eyes on your team. Head coach Eric Schilling said it’s imperative to stay focused on the next game, not the future.
“We don’t talk a whole lot about winning state...we want to be at our best every night and we want to be at our best at that point in the season and see if that’s good enough for us, but we want to focus on the little things that we have to do to be great players, to be great teammates, and then overall just be a great team,” Schilling said. “You focus on those things and then the wins tend to find you, but it doesn’t guarantee it. So these kids, they really understand that and they’re such competitors. I mean, they want to win. They’re going to do anything they can, for themselves, for each other.”
Second half of district
The Swiftettes start the second half of district Tuesday on the road to Springlake-Earth.
If they win out, they’ll be district champs once again.
