AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - It is the 25th anniversary of the Lady Horns Classic. This tournament is split into two days with pool matches taking place today, allowing the opportunity for many athletes to get multiple chances to compete. Tomorrow, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., it transitions to bracket style where it’s win or go home.
Caprock head wrestling coach Chris Allen said this is one of the tournaments that brings competition from not just within the Panhandle but from all over Texas and different states. He also noted this specific tournament is a huge test for his athletes as they make steps toward the postseason.
National significance and competition level
“We’re tied for the longest-running girls tournament in the nation. We’ll have teams from several different states, 30 teams that will be going through,” Allen said.
“It’s a really big tournament, and it’s probably the toughest tournament that our girls will have throughout the season, other than the state tournament.”
