AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Palo Duro Dons swept both games in a District 3-5A basketball doubleheader against Caprock, with the girls winning 83-20 and the boys scoring 100 points in a 100-38 victory.
Girls game
In the fourth quarter of the girls game, Tayleeh Meander drove to the basket on a fast break, using a Euro step move to score off the glass for Caprock.
Palo Duro’s Braya Smith created a turnover on the inbound pass and scored on a one-on-one opportunity, also using a Euro step to finish at the basket.
Late in the fourth quarter, Dani Gilbreath found D’Zyrie Burks on the wing for a three-pointer that extended the Lady Dons’ lead.
Boys game
In the first quarter of the boys game, Cuda Clayton made a cross-court pass to Cheston Mitchell, who drew a double team and found Clayton for a three-pointer that tied the game at 3-3.

The Longhorns turned the ball over on another possession, leading to Braiden Johnson finding Jeremiah Velasquez in the corner for a three-pointer.
With Palo Duro leading 38-18, Kodi Abdelrahim stole an inbound pass. Clayton attacked the basket and missed, but Kyron Brown followed with a tip-in to extend the Dons’ lead.
The boys victory marked the first time this year Palo Duro reached 100 points in a game.
