CANYON , Texas (KFDA) - The Canyon Eagles basketball teams had contrasting results Tuesday night at Joe Lombard Gymnasium, with the girls team dominating and the boys team falling.

Lady Eagles rout Pampa 78-28 in district opener

The No. 1 Canyon Lady Eagles defeated the Pampa Lady Harvesters 78-28 in their district opener.

Canyon controlled the game from start to finish, building a commanding lead early and maintaining dominance throughout.

In the third quarter, Townli Wheeler attacked the basket and finished with her left hand.

Pampa responded when Madi Barton used a spin move to get loose, stepped through a double team and scored off the backboard.

The Lady Eagles continued to pull away in the fourth quarter when Theresa Mode came off screens and found Addi Cunningham open in the corner.

Pampa matched baskets late in the game when Emmy Boutsamaly faked a pass to the corner and connected on a three-pointer from deep.

Tai Wright led Canyon with 16 points.

Kambrie Graser added 15 points, Gracie Lunsford scored 13 points and Braylee Crockett contributed 11 points.

Boutsamaly led the Lady Harvesters with nine points.

Boys team falls to Liberty Patriots

The No. 18 Canyon Eagles fell to the No. 15 Lubbock Cooper Liberty Patriots 67-37 in pre-district action.

Canyon opened the scoring early in the first quarter when Hansen Williamson drove to the basket and found Clayton Wilcox, who used his body to shield the defender and scored on a layup.

Later in the quarter, Jesiah Aquallo attacked the basket and kicked the ball out to Jordan Webber in the corner. Webber drove into the paint, created space with a pivot move and scored while drawing a foul.

The Eagles continued their drive-and-kick offense when Aiden Alcala found Levi Turner for a high-arcing shot that tied the game at seven points.

Liberty took control from that point and won by 30 points.
