AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Amarillo High swept Caprock in a District 3-5A basketball doubleheader Tuesday night, with the Lady Sandies winning 66-21 and the boys following with a 60-43 victory.

Lady Sandies cruise to 45-point victory

The ninth-ranked Lady Sandies controlled the game from early on against the Lady Horns.

Mazzy Budd connected on a three-pointer off an outlet pass from Tyler Held in the second quarter.

Tatyana Price responded with a long three-pointer in the third quarter for the Lady Horns.

Budd found Keanu Allen for a behind-the-head layup in the final frame.

Caprock got a putback basket from Brianna Valenzuela after Mariah Mejia missed a free throw, but the Lady Sandies dominated throughout for the 45-point victory.

Boys game stays close before Sandies pull away

The boys game remained close through the first half, with Caprock leading 27-26 in the second quarter.

Jeremiah Velasquez opened the scoring for the Longhorns with a three-pointer off a cross-court pass from Braiden Johnson.

Amarillo High answered with Jax Richards hitting a jumper over the Caprock defense.

Hud Schaffer found Patch Parr for a three-pointer that gave the Sandies the lead heading into halftime.

Johnson tied the game at 29 early in the third quarter with a layup after losing his defender on an inbound play.

The Sandies pulled away in the second half to secure the 17-point victory.
